Baseball Recap: Huntington Takes a Loss

Huntington was the 16-2 winner over Eastern when they last played one another back in March of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Huntsmen fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 6-5 on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that the Huntsmen have lost by just one run.

Seth Throckmorton was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only five hits, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Huntington: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

Throckmorton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Elliott, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Cole Barr also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Huntington and nudges their season record down to 4-3. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Eastern, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Huntington will venture away from home to challenge Paint Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Huntsmen are facing the Bearcats at the right time seeing as the Bearcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Eastern, they will head out to take on North Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors will also cruise into their next match with the timing on their side: the Green Devils will have lost three straight heading into Monday's contest.
