Basketball Recap: Catawba Ridge Falls Despite Big Games from Elijah Peters and Mark Caslaru

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Catawba Ridge can now relate to. They lost to the Riverside Warriors on the road by a 63-49 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Copperheads can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Warriors are ranked 15th).

Despite the defeat, Catawba Ridge had strong showings from Mark Caslaru, who en route to 14 points along with eight boards and eight blocks, and Elijah Peters, who posted 13 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Peters a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Thomas, who earned six points.

Catawba Ridge has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points over those games. Riverside pushed their record up to 20-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Catawba Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Riverside, they will square off against Greenville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenville will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something Riverside surely won't give up without a fight.
