Baseball Recap: Falmouth Gets the Win

Falmouth proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Westbrook Blue Blazes 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Navigators in their matchups with the Blue Blazes: they've now won seven in a row.

Nick Wyse looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Josh Polchies, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon White, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Falmouth's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Westbrook, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Falmouth is set to challenge their familiar foe Bonny Eagle at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Navigators 1.7, the Scots 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Westbrook will take on rival South Portland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
