Baseball Game Preview: Boyd County Lions vs. Wheelersburg Pirates

The Boyd County Lions will face off against the Wheelersburg Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Boyd County will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.

While Boyd County's win against Blazer wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions beat the Tomcats on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-4.

Meanwhile, Wheelersburg came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 4-1.

Jack Picklesimer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Brody Wilburn was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Clevenger, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Boyd County's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Wheelersburg, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
