Football Recap: Marcus Vicari's Menacing Defense Leads Butler over Meadville

Butler won against Brashear last Friday with 48 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Golden Tornado enjoyed a cozy 48-34 victory over the Meadville Bulldogs. The win continues a trend for the Golden Tornado in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Butler didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Marcus Vicari, Tyson Pino, Nash Cuffman, and Mark Klemz picked up one apiece.

Loss or not, Meadville got some senior leadership from Jordan Lawrence and Tymir Phillips. Lawrence rushed for 221 yards and three scores while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, while Phillips gained 189 total yards and two touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 80 yards.

Butler's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Meadville, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Butler will face off against Hollidaysburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Meadville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Oil City at 7:00 p.m. This will be the Bulldogs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
