Softball Recap: Loyd Star Starts Season with Victory Against Tylertown

Loyd Star gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They never let the Tylertown Chiefs get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Hornets also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2017.

Ann Claire Case made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Case was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two).

In other batting news, Adi Holcomb was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Ava Herring was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Loyd Star hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in six consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Tylertown is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Loyd Star didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Lawrence County on the 15th. As for Tylertown, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 17-2 loss against Loyd Star on the 15th.
