Preview: Jacksboro Tigers vs. Holliday Eagles

Jacksboro is 0-5 against Holliday since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Jacksboro Tigers are on the road again and play against the Holliday Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

With a playoff game on the line, Jacksboro rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 45-6 victory over Bells.

Luke Sams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 132 yards and four touchdowns, while also picking up 79 receiving yards. Sams was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Lando Belcher, who threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt.

Another reason for the win was Jacksboro's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Hunter Moffit was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.

Meanwhile, Holliday entered their tilt with Leonard with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Holliday blew past Leonard, posting a 42-6 win on the road. Given Holliday's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Leonard is ranked 640th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grant Cox was on fire: he rushed for 92 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 159 yards and a touchdown on only 15 passes. Parker Jones was another key contributor, gaining 83 total yards and a touchdown.

Their wins bumped Jacksboro to 12-0 and Holliday to 11-1.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Jacksboro has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 239.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Holliday struggles in that department as they've been averaging 201.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Jacksboro took a serious blow against Holliday in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, falling 63-12. Thankfully for Jacksboro, Peyton Marchand (who threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
