Basketball Recap: Shawe Memorial Comes Up Short

If Shawe Memorial was feeling good fresh off their 71-50 takedown of Columbus Christian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers were dealt a 64-37 loss at the hands of the Switzerland County Pacers on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hilltoppers in their matchups with the Pacers: they've now lost five in a row.

Switzerland County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carson Griffith, who went 8-for-16 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. What's more, Griffith also posted two assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Cooper Todd was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points and six boards.

Shawe Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Switzerland County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Shawe Memorial will welcome Oldenburg Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Switzerland County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 63-39 defeat against Austin on the 15th.
