Baseball Recap: Canton Comes Up Short

Canton dropped to 7-13 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-3 to the Troy Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 back in April.

Canton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reed Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Troy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Troy, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Troy's side, they let Brendan Gilliland and Mason Smith run wild. Gilliland went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Smith went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Gilliland has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Logunn Heasley, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Canton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Troy, they will head out on the road to face off against Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
