Baseball Game Preview: University Cougars vs. Boone Braves

University is 1-9 against Boone since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars will host the Braves at 6:00 p.m. University has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

University is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against East River, falling 11-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Angel Berrios made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Boone got themselves on the board against Colonial on Wednesday, but Colonial never followed suit. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Grenadiers. The victory continues a trend for the Braves in their matchups with the Grenadiers: they've now won seven in a row.

The result came thanks to Kurtis Harper's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Boone is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Boone saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jetzel Flores, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Flores a new career-high. Matthew Wuthrich also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

University's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Boone, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
