Recap: Green Canyon Wolves vs. Payson Lions

The Green Canyon Wolves are still undefeated this season after their match against the Payson Lions on Friday, but the Payson Lions came as close as anyone has to beating them. Green Canyon came out on top in a nail-biter against Payson and snuck past 55-52. Given Green Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Payson is ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Green Canyon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jared Anderson out in front who scored 14 points. The game was Anderson's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Layker Ward , who scored 14 points.

Payson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kamika Wesley, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Wesley scored a full 28.8% of Payson's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Legend Reynoso, who scored ten points.

Green Canyon's win bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Payson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Green Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Desert Hills at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Desert Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. Payson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Pine View at 4:30 p.m. on December 16th. Pine View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Payson likes a good challenge.
