Softball Recap: Yucca Valley Drops Season-High Score on Banning

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yucca Valley). They were the clear victor by an 18-8 margin over the Banning Broncos on Monday. Considering the Trojans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Bella Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Yucca Valley got a massive performance out of Tayla Monroy, who scored three runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Monroy a new career-high in stolen bases. Hannah Cusack was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.

Yucca Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Banning only posted an OBP of .400.

The win made it two in a row for Yucca Valley and bumps their season record up to 4-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Banning, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Yucca Valley will be playing at home against Desert Hot Springs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Yucca Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season. As for Banning, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when Banning Broncos duke it out with West Valley Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. They have given up an average of 12.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
