Soccer Game Preview: Horizon vs. Desert Mountain

Horizon and Desert Mountain are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but likely not for long. The two teams will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Horizon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.9 goals per game this season.

Horizon is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Arizona College Prep, falling 7-4. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Knights are ranked seventh).

Horizon hit Arizona College Prep with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Ryker Floyd (2), Lucas Erwin, and Derek Moran.

Meanwhile, Desert Mountain fought the good fight in their overtime match against Campo Verde on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Coyotes by a score of 3-2. Wolves have struggled against the Coyotes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Horizon's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Desert Mountain, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5-1.

Horizon was able to grind out a solid win over Desert Mountain in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Horizon since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
