Basketball Recap: Cumberland Gap Comes Up Short

Cumberland Gap played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders 88-52. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Highlanders: they've now lost five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Cumberland Gap lost, don't look at Brady Harris. Despite the final result, he went 13-for-16 en route to 30 points and seven boards. Harris' big performance that evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Cameron Burchett was another key player, putting up seven points.

It was another big night for Jayden Barton, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a triple-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and ten assists for Gatlinburg-Pittman. Barton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Quinn Coykendall, who shot 60% from the field on his way to 15 points.

Cumberland Gap's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Cumberland Gap and Hancock County will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they have already played their next matchup, a 65-59 defeat against Northview Academy on the 11th.
