Baseball Recap: Scripps Ranch Takes a Loss

Scripps Ranch started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against La Jolla. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Kamden Cha spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Scripps Ranch is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-9-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Nathan Yu made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Scripps Ranch's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 7-9-1 when he doesn't).

Scripps Ranch now has a losing record of 9-10-1. As for La Jolla, they pushed their record up to 12-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

While Scripps Ranch had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
