Basketball Game Preview: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Steeleville Warriors

Valmeyer is 0-10 against Steeleville since January of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Valmeyer Pirates will host the Steeleville Warriors at 7:00 p.m.

Valmeyer will head into Friday's contest out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. 2025 welcomed they with a 70-44 loss courtesy of New Athens. The Pirates were down 62-36 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, Steeleville didn't have too much trouble with Mt. Carmel last Monday as they won 59-40. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Golden Aces are ranked 572nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Valmeyer's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-3. As for Steeleville, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.

Valmeyer came up short against Steeleville in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 64-60. Can Valmeyer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
