Baseball Recap: East Duplin Comes Up Short

If East Duplin was feeling good fresh off their 12-2 takedown of James Kenan last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Southwest Onslow Stallions by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Stallions: they've now lost three in a row.

Kyle Kern was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, East Duplin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Tuck, who went 2-for-4 with one double. That double was Tuck's first of the season.

East Duplin's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Southwest Onslow, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

East Duplin didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 win against North Duplin on the 31st. As for Southwest Onslow, they have also already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Kinston on the 1st.
