Recap: Park View Patriots vs. Osbourn Eagles
The Park View Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 53-42 defeat to Osbourn. Park View found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 17 to 4 on offense.
Despite the loss, Park View still got an impressive performance from Anna Helstrom, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and three steals. Helstrom scored a full 31% of Park View's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Earnhart, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Osbourn was led to victory by Rhyannon Stanley and Irieanna Smoot. Stanley dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds, while Smoot scored 24 points along with seven steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Smoot has scored at least 25% of Osbourn's points. Angel Boateng was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Park View has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Osbourn, their win ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6-1.
Park View will take on Broad Run at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Broad Run is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. As for Osbourn, they will be playing at home against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Freedom presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Osbourn in Virginia (Freedom is ranked 75th, while Osbourn is ranked 292nd).
