Basketball Recap: Humboldt Falls Short of Girard in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Humboldt can now relate to. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 50-49 to the Girard Trojans. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cubs came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Trojans are ranked 274th).

Humboldt lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tre Franklin, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Works, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Humboldt's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points over those games. As for Girard, their victory bumped their record up to 4-12-3.

As of now, neither Humboldt nor Girard have any future games scheduled.
