Softball Recap: Melissa Continues Home Dominance on Friday

With a playoff win on the line, Melissa rose to the challenge on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Midlothian Panthers a 16-0 shutout. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 29 matches by six runs or more this season.

Eloisa Maes looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caigan Crabtree, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Finlee Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Melissa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in nine consecutive games.

Melissa pushed their record up to 34-0 with the win, which was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Midlothian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 24-10-1.

As of now, neither Melissa nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
