Basketball Game Preview: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Rio Rico Hawks

The Walden Grove Red Wolves will head out to challenge the Rio Rico Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Walden Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.6 points per game this season.

Walden Grove is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Bradshaw Mountain just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. 2025 welcomed they with a 76-54 loss courtesy of the Bears. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Wolves have suffered since December 4, 2023.

Walden Grove's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mitchel Collins, who posted 15 points, and Imileo Martinez, who earned 12 points. Another player making a difference was Israel Herrera Jr., who had six points.

Meanwhile, Rio Rico ended up a good deal behind Browne last Friday and lost 70-52. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Walden Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Rio Rico, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.

Walden Grove didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Rio Rico in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 64-59 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Rio Rico's Angel Valenzuela, who went 10 for 14 on his way to 26 points. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Walden Grove to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
