Recap: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Grandview Wolves
On Friday, The Cherokee Trail Cougars faced the Grandview Wolves in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cherokee Trail skirted past Grandview 23-21. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Cherokee Trail as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Among those leading the charge was Noah Collins, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Cherokee Trail also got help from Peyton Castro who showed off his sure hands for 109 receiving yards.
Grandview's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Liam Szarka, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 148 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Blanks, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Cherokee Trail's win bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Grandview, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cherokee Trail will take on Smoky Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smoky Hill is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Grandview, they will be playing at home against Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherry Creek will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
