Basketball Recap: Maize Eagles vs. Derby Panthers
The Maize Eagles were the 51-48 winner over the Derby Panthers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Maize took a 58-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Maize had strong showings from Alan Hanna, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Alec Grill, who scored ten points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Hanna pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Maize's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Derby, they pushed their record up to 6-6 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maize's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Maize South is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Derby, they will head out on the road to face off against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
