Softball Recap: West Washington Has No Trouble Against Providence

West Washington won the last time they faced Providence and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Senators were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Pioneers. The Senators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Alaina Schmidt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Manship, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Meredith Deaton, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for West Washington and bumps their season record up to 14-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Providence, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

West Washington will face off against Paoli at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in the Senators' favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home while the Rams have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Providence, they will head out to square off against Southwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
