Recap: Battle Mountain Longhorns vs. Sierra Lutheran Falcons

After flying high against the Silver Stage Nighthawks on Friday, the Battle Mountain Longhorns came back down to earth. Battle Mountain fell just short of Sierra Lutheran by a score of 33-30. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Battle Mountain of the 33-22 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Battle Mountain lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Stevlana Martinez, who scored eight points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Chopp, who scored seven points along with three blocks.

Sierra Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samantha Steyn led the charge by scoring nine points along with five steals and two blocks. Steyn hasn't dropped below five steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Chloe Friend, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Battle Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season. As for Sierra Lutheran, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Battle Mountain will be playing at home against North Tahoe at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sierra Lutheran, they will head out on the road to challenge Coral Academy of Science - Reno at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Coral Academy of Science - Reno is coming into the match with four straight losses at home, meaning Sierra Lutheran will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
