Basketball Recap: Mudassir Abdullah and Kaison Lewis Secure Win for Columbia

Columbia hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 54-48 W against the Needville Bluejays. This was a revenge game for the Roughnecks: when they faced off against the Bluejays back in January, they had to take a 52-41 loss.

Columbia was led to victory by Kaison Lewis and Mudassir Abdullah. Lewis went 8 of 18 en route to 20 points and three steals, while Abdullah posted 12 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Aaron Carpenter, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points and five boards.

Defeat or not, Needville got some senior leadership from Bohdan Zeitz and Zachary Lyvers. Zeitz went 5 of 11 to rack up 13 points, while Lyvers earned eight points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Lyvers a new career-high in blocks (two). Jaydon Ortiz was another key player, putting up seven points.

Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 9-22. As for Needville, they dropped their record down to 8-16 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Columbia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 72-64 win against El Campo on the 4th. As for Needville, they have also already played their next game, a 67-47 victory against Bay City on the 4th.
