Recap: Hamilton Bobcats vs. Vasquez Mustangs
The Hamilton Bobcats can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They secured a 48-42 W over Vasquez. Hamilton's offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.
William Hamlett went supernova for Hamilton, rushing for 305 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Seth Aanestad also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Vasquez to a paltry 218 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Hamilton's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Josh Torres and his two sacks.
Vasquez's loss came despite strong showings from Nathan Sanchez and Anthony Escobedo. Sanchez gained 93 total yards and two touchdowns, while Escobedo gained 61 total yards and three touchdowns.
Hamilton's win bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Vasquez, their loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hamilton will take on Desert Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Vasquez, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Santa Rosa Academy at 7:00 p.m.
