Softball Recap: Newton's Loss Ends 18-Game Winning Streak at Home

Newton dropped their record down to 20-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Casey-Westfield Warriors by a score of 5-4. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Casey-Westfield, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 27-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.8 runs.

For Casey-Westfield's part, Ava Goble spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tristan Ring, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Allyson Truelove, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Newton will take on Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Casey-Westfield, they will face off against Flora at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
