Basketball Recap: Mariame Bongono's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Federal Way over White River

On Thursday, the Federal Way Eagles ended up a good deal behind the White River Hornets and lost 71-53. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Hornets are ranked 29th).

Federal Way's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariame Bongono, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. Bongono is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaieunna Kier, who posted ten points.

Federal Way dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for White River, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Federal Way Eagles duke it out with the Kentlake Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for White River, they will take on Rainier at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
