Baseball Game Preview: Groveton Indians vs. Shelbyville Dragons

The Groveton Indians will head out to face off against the Shelbyville Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Groveton will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

If Groveton beats Shelbyville with six runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Indians walked away with a 6-1 victory over Oakwood last Tuesday.

Groveton's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was JACK SULLIVAN, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. TY TORREGROSA was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Shelbyville entered their tilt with Mineola on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 8-3.

Gus Duvon and Morgan Doggett did most of the damage at the plate: Duvon went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Doggett got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bryant Scarborough, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Groveton's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Shelbyville, their record now sits at 18-7-1.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Groveton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Shelbyville struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Groveton couldn't quite finish off Shelbyville in their previous meeting back in March and fell 3-1. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
