Softball Game Preview: Yorba Linda Mustangs vs. Marina Vikings

The Yorba Linda Mustangs will challenge the Marina Vikings at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Yorba Linda comes in on four and Marina on five.

Yorba Linda is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Valley Christian. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Samantha Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Yorba Linda got a massive performance out of Claire Gress, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Gress has posted since back in April. Grace Gomez was another key player, going 1-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Marina posted their closest victory since March 25th on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out St. Paul 3-1.

Yorba Linda's win bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Marina, their victory bumped their record up to 17-13.
