Softball Game Preview: Cardinal O'Hara Lions vs. Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles

Cardinal O'Hara is a perfect 3-0 against Conwell-Egan Catholic since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lions will square off against the Eagles at 3:45 p.m. Cardinal O'Hara is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.

On Tuesday, Cardinal O'Hara got the win against St. Hubert Catholic for Girls by a conclusive 7-1. Considering the Lions have won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hayden Sissons made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Lindsey Cathers was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Maggie Watkins also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Cardinal O'Hara kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Conwell-Egan Catholic made easy work of Archbishop Ryan on Tuesday and carried off an 11-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Raiders and Ragdolls: they've now won three in a row.

Cardinal O'Hara's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Conwell-Egan Catholic, their record is now 2-3.

Cardinal O'Hara skirted past Conwell-Egan Catholic 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
