If Clearwater Central Catholic was riding high fresh off their 52-6 takedown of Indian Rocks Christian last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Marauders lost 49-28 to the Cardinal Mooney Cougars on Friday. The Marauders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.

When it comes to explaining why Clearwater Central Catholic lost, don't look at Khayse Barrett. Despite the final result, he rushed for 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 134 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Corey Simms, who gained 103 total yards and a touchdown.

Cardinal Mooney was led to victory by Connail Jackson and Davin Davidson. Jackson rushed for 134 yards and two scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, while Davidson threw for 213 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes. Jackson's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Kymistrii Young did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Clearwater Central Catholic fell to 6-1. As for Cardinal Mooney, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Clearwater Central Catholic and Cardinal Mooney should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Marauders will take on Zephyrhills Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (28 vs. 432). Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney (ranked ninth) will meet Lakewood (ranked 47th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,140 yards in their previous games.
