Basketball Recap: Memorial Day Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Memorial Day won the last time they faced Savannah Athletic Association and things went their way on Monday too. The Memorial Day Matadors greeted the New Year with with a 50-35 win over the Savannah Athletic Association Jaguars.

Memorial Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Johnkeria Miles out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillie Brown, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Savannah Athletic Association lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Chloe McNew, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. McNew has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Violet Harden, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points.

Memorial Day is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Savannah Athletic Association, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9.

Memorial Day will host Coastal HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Savannah Athletic Association, they will head out to take on Bible Baptist Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bible Baptist Christian has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
