Softball Recap: Payson Falls Short Against Ranked Timpanogos

On Thursday, Payson faced Timpanogos in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Payson Lions fell just short of the Timpanogos Timberwolves by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Lions have suffered since March 15, 2024.

Allie Callahan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Paisley Beckstead, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Callahan wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Payson lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matchups.

Payson's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Timpanogos, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payson will challenge Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Timpanogos, they will host Orem at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
