Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Columbia's Winning Streak

Columbia and Niceville squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Columbia had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Ayden Phillips was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Columbia moved to 17-11 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Niceville, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 26-4.

While Columbia had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
