West Fork had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 7-9 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Hackett Hornets by a score of 6-5. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 17-7.
Pit Caudle put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Joselyn Botello was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those doubles were her first of the season. Kinley Oliver was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Hackett, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.
On Hackett's side, Ryleigh Decker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Kali Reather was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Michaelyn Freeman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Fork will challenge Greenland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hackett, they will take on Lamar at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
