Softball Recap: Red River Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Red River dropped their record down to 10-7-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Bismarck Demons by a score of 5-3. The Roughriders were not able to make up for their defeat to the Demons from their previous meeting back in June of 2022.

Jocelyn Berg spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

As for Bismarck, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Bismarck's side, Mya Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Jones was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Braun, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Josie Schell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As of now, neither Red River nor Bismarck have any future games scheduled.
