Football Recap: Amphitheater Takes a Loss

Amphitheater extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They were outmatched by the Douglas Bulldogs and fell 45-14. Panthers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Bulldogs since Friday.

Although Amphitheater took the loss, they still got scores from Imanol Silva and David Gerrerro.

Even if they lost, Amphitheater's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.

As for Douglas, their win bumped their record up to 4-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won three games by 21 points or more so far this season.

Douglas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ivan Higuera led the charge by throwing for 267 yards and three TDs on only 18 passes, while also rushing for 30 yards and one score. What's more, Higuera racked up 121.5 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another pass catcher making a difference was Davian Fimbres, who picked up 155 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Amphitheater didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-0 defeat against Mica Mountain on the 17th. As for Douglas, they have also already played their next contest, a 42-7 loss against Sahuaro on the 17th.
