Baseball Game Preview: Middle Township Panthers vs. Egg Harbor Township Eagles

Middle Township hasn't had much luck against Egg Harbor Township recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Panthers will head out to take on the Eagles at 11:00 a.m. Middle Township will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

While Middle Township didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Wildwood Catholic by a score of 13-9 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Egg Harbor Township got the win against St. Joseph on Thursday by a conclusive 8-1. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Jacob Cagna was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other pitching news, Nick Cruse looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Eli Casey, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mike Baxter, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Middle Township's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.2 runs over those games. As for Egg Harbor Township, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-2.
