Softball Recap: Shawnee Starts Season with Victory at Home

Shawnee gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the St. Henry Redskins 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since April 20, 2024.

Riley Rhodes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lyla Rosas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Taylor Lichty was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

St. Henry's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee will face off against Bryan at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Henry, they will be playing at home against Franklin Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
