Basketball Recap: Ferndale Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Ferndale, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They were the clear victor by a 51-30 margin over the Lakewood Cougars on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Golden Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leiana Riveira, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. What's more, Riveira also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Alaina Jones was another key player, putting up seven points and six rebounds.

Ferndale's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Lakewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Ferndale will head out to take on Squalicum at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Lakewood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Mount Vernon at 7:15 p.m.
