Baseball Game Preview: Seguin Matadors vs. Lanier Voks

The Seguin Matadors will take on the Lanier Voks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Seguin will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Seguin's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Sam Houston. Considering the Matadors have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ethan Tipple was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Jordan Herrera looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ian Moreno, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brandon Sadler, who went 2-for-4 with four runs and one double.

Seguin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Lanier was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 11-0 to Burbank.

Seguin is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13-1.

Everything went Seguin's way against Lanier in their previous meeting back in March, as Seguin made off with an 18-0 victory. Will the Matadors repeat their success, or do the Voks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
