Baseball Recap: Smoky Hill Takes a Loss

Smoky Hill saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of the Kirtland Central Broncos by a score of 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Buffaloes have lost by just one run.

Eric Aleman was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of William Fontenot, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Smoky Hill and nudges their season record down to 3-2. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Kirtland Central, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-6.

Coming up, Smoky Hill will be playing in front of their home fans against Rangeview at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Kirtland Central, they will head out to square off against Grants at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
