Basketball Recap: Georgetown Day Comes Up Short

Georgetown Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-58 heartbreaker at the hands of Connelly School of the Holy Child. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mighty Hoppers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked seventh in District of Columbia, while Connelly School of the Holy Child are ranked 112th in Maryland).

Despite the defeat, Georgetown Day saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jozi McDuffie went 10-for-17 en route to 26 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Liya Fairfax, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Georgetown Day's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Connelly School of the Holy Child, their win bumped their record up to 4-17.

Georgetown Day has already played their next contest, a 54-43 defeat against St. Andrew's Episcopal on the 14th. Connelly School of the Holy Child has also already played their next match (against Sidwell Friends), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
