Softball Recap: Eunice Takes a Loss

Eunice extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jal Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cardinals have suffered since March 24th.

Elizabeth Gaytan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Peyton Williams, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Jal, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 12th.

On Jal's side, Johnna Butts made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. Butts was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last eight contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yanira Sauceda, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (two). Kaedyn Lujan was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple.

Coincidentally, Eunice and Jal will both be playing Loving the next time they take the field. The Panthers will head out to face the Falcons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Cardinals will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
