The Diamond Ranch Panthers will take on the Chino Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Diamond Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Diamond Ranch is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Don Lugo just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 10-2 to the Conquistadores. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Chino came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cavaliers a 10-0 shutout. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Kristine Lancaster was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angelina Ortiz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evelyn Ornelas, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Chino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Diamond Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Chino, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Diamond Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Chino struggles in that department as they've averaged .390. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
