Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles vs. Moapa Valley Pirates

Somerset Sky Pointe is 2-8 against Moapa Valley since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Moapa Valley Pirates at 6:30 p.m. Somerset Sky Pointe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.

Somerset Sky Pointe is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Clark on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Somerset Sky Pointe took a blow against Clark, falling 82-50. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-19.

Somerset Sky Pointe might have lost, but man, Ja'Cory Gory was a machine: he went 12 of 21 on his way to 28 points. The matchup was Gory's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Zitnansky, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Moapa Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-48 heartbreaker at the hands of Pahrump Valley. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Trojans 17-7 in the first quarter.

Moapa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Somerset Sky Pointe couldn't quite finish off Moapa Valley when the teams last played back in January and fell 57-54. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Moapa Valley's Brigham Whitmore, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards.
