Baseball Recap: Bentworth Comes Up Short

Bentworth fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Fort Cherry on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 13-5 to the Rangers. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Rangers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Sam Wade was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jacob Cavanaugh and Cameron Krejci did some serious damage despite the final result: Cavanaugh got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, while Krejci went 1-for-3 with three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Hays, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Bentworth now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Fort Cherry, their victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Rangers beat Bentworth by a score of 16-1 on Tuesday.
