Baseball Game Preview: Portage Mustangs vs. Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays

For the second straight game, Portage will face off against Conemaugh Valley. The Mustangs will head out to take on the Blue Jays at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Portage is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Portage fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Conemaugh Valley on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Jays by a score of 7-6.

For Conemaugh Valley's part, Lance Masser made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Masser has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nate Stiffler was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gavin Buchan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Conemaugh Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Portage's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Conemaugh Valley, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-5.
